I'm considering booking a cruise on the Pride Of America for 2009. Probadly will be in mid Sept. sometime. This will be to celebrate the wife and I turning Fifty .
We will fly out of Jackson Ms. and arrive a day or 2 early in Honolulu before the cruise. I would love to go see the memoral, and some other sites before we cruise.
I need advice on hotels, and locations that maybe close to the port, and airport.(If possible ) Also, what is the time difference between Central time zone and Hawaii ?
The time difference should be 5 hours between Central and Hawaii in September. It normally is 4, but Hawaii doesn't use DST.
As for Hotels, I haven't stayed much in Honolulu. We did use the Airport Hotel which has a shuttle to and from the airport, but don't know about cruise docks. The last time we stayed at the Holiday Inn. They can arrange for a shuttle to the airport with one of the local companies, so maybe they would go to the dock too.
On my first two times in Hawaii, I stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village that's in Waikiki. Its website says it's 20 minutes from the airport. Not sure how that translates into miles. We did walk from there to the Aloha Tower Marketplace when staying there on our honeymoon. And next to the Marketplace is the cruise terminal (which we know from getting off the Island Princess in 2005 and finding ourselves right at the Marketplace).
It's probably pretty pricey. I do remember we were given a fantastic room in 1995, but that was probably because they found out we just got married.

According to mapquest, it's 8 miles from this hotel to the airport, and 2-1/2 miles to the marketplace, which is just east of the terminal our ship was docked at.

David, we are staying in Honolulu on May 13-14 at the Maile Sky Court. It was a real "deal" as far as I was concerned at $70 per night, I will advise how it was when we get back.

I have been researching Hawaii (but a roundtrip from CA). In the process I learned about a series of book pertaining to Hawaii that might be of interest to you. There is one on Oahu:
Oahu Revealed 2nd Edition
The Ultimate Guide to Honolulu, Waikiki & Beyond
Andrew Doughty
Wizard Publications Inc
I heard about it on the message boards and found it at our local Barnes & Noble. In fact they had all the revealed books. Loaded with great information, photos, directions, tips etc. Each book takes 2 years to write and are written by someone who actually lives there.
Here's a link to their website ... be sure if you buy any of the books that you purchased the latest edition for the most up to date information. The website will list the edition # for each island book.

Ok, don't do that one. Save your pennie and go for a name brand, Hyatt, Marriott, etc.
It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't my cup of tea. on a scale of 1-5, it gets a 2 in my book.
They nickel and dimed us to death. Extra coffee packs, $1..gimme a break.
Anyway, seriously, go for the name brand. I know I will next time, and there will be a next time!
