2nd marriage for both of us, too. We lived in Indiana at the time, and went to St. Louis for our honeymoon. We had to return early because he missed the kids!
Oh, he also tells people he married me for my children, just didn't think ahead about when they would grow up, leave home, and he would be alone with me!
They have been out of the house for about 15 years and we are celebrating our 31st anniversary this April!

How did I honeymoon?
We got married on the coast of Maine, in a town called Catine, flew back to San Francisco, packed our bags and spent 21 days in Hawaii.
It was AWESOME. Now, we didn't go on a cruise, but we saw all of Kuai and Maui had to offer.
We splurged on this vacation as we have never done before. Both the Sheratons upgraded us to ocean front suites upon arrival and we spared no expense. Did I mention how awesome it was?
We rented a Jeep...were able to come and go wherever and whenever we wanted. I think having that Jeep really helped us see some out of the way places that we would have missed otherwise.
We were only supposed to stay 16 days, but I kept extending things...not wanting to return to regular life in California (an oxymoron?).
I can recommend no place more than Hawaii for a honeymoon or getaway vacation. I, to this day, drift into daydreams about that particular trip.
For the first marriage, we didn't do a honeymoon. No money whatsoever. Marriage didn't last very long either.
Learned my lesson for this marriage. But we didn't realize cruises were so inexpensive and didn't know we could afford one. We took a week and went to Colorado Springs/Denver. That's always been one of my favorite places, but it's always been with my parents so I've never gotten to choose what I wanted to do. And I'd always been there as a kid, so I'd never appreciated any of the things that we did. On this go 'round, it was Mulligan time! We went to the Coors Brewery, of course. It actually was less fun this time around because they were renovating. It didn't smell as good as I remembered either. But the jokes about wastewater and Keystone were definitely funnier. We also took the Pikes Peak train, something we didn't do when I was a kid. We took the car. And I distinctly remember screaming all the way back down the mountain. What a great trip that must have been for my dad, trying to drive. The $25 train ticket must have looked like a bargain by then. It was well worth it from my perspective. It was a beautiful climb up, and I got to look out at the scenery instead of trying to navigate.
We did do some other things that were new. We were introduced to the joys of the carriage tour. Our guide moonlights as a guide. His "day" job is doing private investigations. Our tour had a definite criminal history slant. Skipped the Garden of the Gods and went to Red Rocks instead. Less graffiti. Much more beautiful, IMO. We were going to go to the US Mint in Denver, but didn't know you had to get an invitation from your Congressman (post 9/11). Scratch that. Forgot to do my travel research. Shame on me. So instead, we went to see Buffalo Bill's grave. Oh so kitschy. The pictures are hilarious. Someday I'll get my scanner to speak to Vista, and I'll be able to start scanning my pictures again. And on the way down the mountain from the grave site, I got a job offer. On my honeymoon. Can't beat that!
So, I don't guess you asked for a trip report, but you kinda got one anyway. So the gist is, I didn't go on a cruise because I didn't know I could afford one way back then. Silly me. So we went land-based. But if I had gone on a cruise, I wouldn't have gotten that phone interview or the subsequent job offer, now would I? (What? I didn't mention I had a phone interview on the side of the road in Golden, Colorado? On my honeymoon?)
When we we getting married our mothers took over all the planning. Marilyn was allow some input but I was out of the loop. I did however get to plan the honeymoon. The planning took place during the first season of The Love Boat TV show. (1977-78). I decided to check into taking a cruise.
We were getting married on a Sunday and there happen to be a 10 night cruise sailing out of LA on the following Tuesday. The timing was perfect. We were able to spend our wedding night in Seattle them fly down to LA and have a get together with some relatives that could not come up for the wedding and then begin our cruise on the Island Princess.
About a month before the cruise we were informed than the film crew would be inboard the ship filming an episode for the new season.
We have spent a number of our anniversaries on ships and next month we will celebrate out 30th anniversary on board the Mariner of the seas

Didn't have a honeymoon, so when we started cruiseing we now have a honeymoon every year
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
Most people walk into and out of your life . . . but FRIENDS leave footprints in your heart
I cant tell you where I DID honeymoon but I can tell you where I will be on our honeymoon
We are getting married 11.11 at 1pm this year, the 12th we fly to Barcelona and the 13th we board the Brilliance of the Seas for a 12 days cruise to France, Italy, Croatia and Malta.

When we got married we were down right BROKE! We made settlement on a fixer-upper house 3 weeks before the wedding and found out we needed an extra $1,500.00 at the settlement table
On our wedding day morning, DH was installing a kitchen sink in the house so we would have a sink, the bathroom did not have one, just a toilet and tub. We spent our honeymoon finishing up our kitchen renovations, how romantic?
We've made up for missing that honeymoon many times now by taking land vacations/cruises and ripping out that kitchen and redoing it!
