Weddings at Sea
I found a terrific article about this at the Vacations to Go website, but since it is not signed, I can't add it to our cruise article file. But I can still give you some highlights, and a link so you can read it.
Most people see chapels on a ship, and think it's for the ship's captain to do weddings while at sea. However, only two lines an actually do this, Princess and Cruise West. But if you have your heart set on cruising on a different line, there are other options.
You can arrange to be married at a port of call on your cruise. But keep in mind that the ship's itinerary can change for weather or mechanical reasons, so this option has some risks. But if you choose that option, you need to come prepared. Some ports allow you to get a marriage license by mail, but others do not. A wedding consultant from that port will make things go smoother.
A less risky option is to have the wedding on the ship Before you depart. You can invite people not cruising to your wedding that way, and if you depart from a port close to home, your guests have benefits of a look at your honeymoon ship without a major travel expense. But they still have to go through security and need appropriate ID, or they will be turned away. Keep in mind that your wedding reception will be happening as the ship is being prepared for the next set of passengers to come aboard, so the crew will be pressed hard to give you any extra attention. Cruise companies have wedding consultants to help you get married in port.
Still interested in combining your wedding with a cruise? Then this article is a MUST READ.
