Holland America Line Donates Mattresses to Food For The Poor’s Jamaica Initiative and to Help Rebuild Haiti
Seattle, Wash., Dec. 9, 2011 — Holland America Line’s ms Statendam recently offloaded 174 mattresses at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and donated them to Food For The Poor. The mattresses were shipped to Haiti and Jamaica to help those in need in poverty stricken areas.
Food For The Poor is the third-largest international relief and development charity in the United States, and feeds more than 2 million people every day. The organization was founded in 1982 and works to help impoverished people throughout 17 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
As part of Holland America Line's corporate social responsibility program, the company and employees join together to contribute to communities and organizations around the world. Holland America Line regularly collects valuable and reusable goods from their ships for donation to charities serving those in need. Past donations have included linens, toiletries, cookware and television sets.
