Holland America Line

Where You Can Smoke: Smoking is permitted in cabins, including cabin balconies, on open decks and in designated areas in most public spaces.

Where You Can't: All restaurants are non-smoking, as is the show lounge during performances.

For the comfort of all of our guests, all indoor areas are designated non-smoking with the exception of:

• Casino
• Northern Lights Disco (ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam only)
• Outside Decks
• Seaview Bar (except ms Maasdam, ms Ryndam & ms Statendam)
• Sports Bar
• Crow's Nest (except ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam)

Our ships do not have "nonsmoking" staterooms; however, all rooms are thoroughly cleaned after each cruise to assure the comfort of our guests. All showrooms are nonsmoking during performances.
Cigar and pipesmoking is permitted on the outside decks only.


UPDATE 7/14/11:

For the comfort of all of our guests, based on an increased desire expressed by the majority of our guests, we are changing our smoking policy as of January 15, 2012.


Presently, all indoor areas are designated non-smoking with the exception of:

• Casino
• Northern Lights Disco (ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam only)
• Seaview Bar (except ms Maasdam, ms Ryndam & ms Statendam)
• Sports Bar
• Crow's Nest (except ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam)

All showrooms are nonsmoking during performances.
There are selected areas of the outside decks where smoking is allowable. Cigar and pipe smoking is only permitted on the outside decks.

Our ships do not currently have "nonsmoking" staterooms; however, all rooms are thoroughly cleaned after each cruise to assure the comfort of our guests

All staterooms will be non-smoking areas, in addition to the other areas that were already defined as non-smoking. Smoking will continue to be permitted outside on stateroom verandahs. There are designated areas available for smoking both inside the ships and on outside decks as detailed above.

Most public spaces on HAL ships are non-smoking.

Very TRUE! Almost ALL public spaces on HAL are non-smoking!

And it varies by ship as well.

HAL is about to make a major decision regarding smoking aboard all its vessels.. I was told should happen 1st quarter 2011

The major change that I want to see is -- no smoking on all the balconies and verandahs!!

I agree that smoking in cabins should not be allowed but balcony smoking should be allowed.
I for one am considerate and will not smoke on my balcony when I'm aware that adjacent balconies are in use.
The exception would be if I have neighbors that are smoking also.

Since we are now in the 3 rd Qtr 2011, I guess they haven't decided on any changes yet ?
