    slot machines

I heard that a number of HAL ships in the Casino have change the system
for the slot machines . you cannot put in money , you have to insert a special card if you want to play. Does the Westerdam have that new system and how does that work. thank you

Yes -- the Westerdam has the new slot machine -- she was among the first to get them.

You use your ID card and select a pin number.

You have the choice of putting in your own money or putting money onto your shipboard account.

If you win -- you no longer hear the jingle of the coins coming out.

The biggest part is if you want to change to another machine -- you have to close out on the first machine before moving to another machine.

We did not play the slots when we saw the method.

At the end of the cruise you do have to go to the cashier and ask for any money you have owed to you -- they don't remind you.

This is just one more way HAL is keeping track of your spending habbits.

We were just on the Carnival Paradise and they are using the same method. We were also able to load cash into the machines as well. For some folks this could really run up their account for final payment. We had money left and did cash in the last night. Guests were reminder in the daily Capers, signs in the casino and announcements to cash in prior to casino close the last nigh onboard. I didn't miss dirty hands from handling cash at all...

I would rather put cash into the slots instead of using a card, Its too easy to go past your limit. I am sure this is one of the reasons why they have converted to this system.

On the Westerdam there wasn't any reminder in the Daily Program about cashin in.

Wonder how much HAL makes on this if people forget to cash out?

My only experience with "Coinless Slots" has been on Princess.

The day before we disembarked a note was sent to me saying there was money in Casino account and to cash out that evening. Too bad HAL doesn't do this also.

On the actually PLAY Regulations ... I think HAL and Princess are the same because the woman sitting next to me a video poker machine (the only slots I play) told me it was the same as it was on her recent HAL cruise.

When you set your Casino account, you must give an amount to deposit into this account. If you go over that amount, you MUST key in how much more you wish to add. It will NOT automatically do it for you ... so it's not that hard to keep up and not overspend.

When you play with a plastic card in Reno or Vegas, you get "perks". The more you play the more perks you get. Things like free meals, shows, free rooms. Do the ships offer any "perks" to those who use the casino often?

Others yes. Carnival has along with this new coin-less system a bonus. Not sure of the details since I don't spend much.

What they SHOULD do is credit your onboard account. Simple efficient and you can't forget about it.
