Do You Go to The Welcome Aboard Captains's Recetion?

Do you go to the Welcome Aboard Captain's Reception? In our very first cruise on Royal Caribbean I know that they did not have anything like this so our second cruise was on the Zuirderdam. We were just so impress, still being relatively new to cruising. It was not just the free drinks either. It just seem so traditional like the way cruising would of been many years ago. I have heard people complain about it but I think it is fun and a neat way to see the crew. On the Westerdam there was a couple that were in their later 80's (we know because they told us) that were daning before the reception started down front. They were both dressed up very formal he had on a white dinner jacket. They were wonderful dancers. We told them how we really admired them and thought they danced wonderfully together. We ran into them all over the ship.

My stock answer: free drinks are not to be passed by... but, yes we do enjoy meeting the captain and seeing the other officers.

We usually pass on the Welcome Reception but attended the one our most recent cruise, but just the last 15 minutes or so.

Never. I can be found in the casino or at a bar enjoying a drink.

Always. I never pass up a chance for formalwear and I enjoy visiting with old friends amongst the staff.

Always. It's a tradition that I hope they never do away with. It's a very elegant cocktail party.
