    Bill - 1 day cruise?

    Welcome to the new site.

Weren't you the one who had a 1 day cruise a couple of years ago?

If so, what ship were you on and what happened?

KK: yep, it was us! Actually, the ship cauught fire about 3 hours after leaving the pier!!! It was in 2002, near Vancouver and on the Statendam!

It was the real deal, with fire alarm, crew running around in fire-fighting gear grabbing fire extinguishers, smoke in the passage way and power outage with all attendant failures: no A/C, plumbing, hot meals, ice, etc. Ship in essence, died. We were towed back to port by 3 tugs-took 9 hours to be towed back after being dead in the water for about 3 hours.

HAL made good on it, however, and we take the lifeboat muster real seriously ever since. We also make a point to find where the closest fire extinguisher is to our cabin! We sailed on the Statendam again in 2003, successfully that time!!

    I thought that was you.

You should read the thread "ever Had an Emergency on shipboard" on the General board here.

I only listed a few of the experiences that we have had.

KK: thanks for the "head's up"---I posted a more detailed version of our Statendam adenture and added a short rendition of our ice-encirclement on the Amsterdam while in Antarctica.

I was on a 1 day cruise recently .... the Staten Island ferry.

And the best part was, didn't have to pay anything!

    Vic

    That's funny.

Between Jim and you, the two of you will keep this board laughing.
