Postcards from HeLL

Oops ..... 'HAL'

Sorry, couldn't resist!

Anyhoo, did everyone get thier recent mailer advertising the Noordams Caribbean run from NY? It sez sailing from Manhattan

It makes me wonder if HAL is going to be the renegade of Worlds Leading Cruise Lines, and avoid using the uber-terminal that's getting built in Brooklyn.

Granted, that new pier will be convenient for Brooklynites, Queens residents, and our nieghbors on 'LawnGuyLand'

But it'll add an extra 20 min to a half hour for this Jersey Boy to get to. Let's take this as a sign that maybe the new pier is put on hold for a while.

No - we didn't get anything about the Noordam sailing from New York.

But I do have a 2006 planner that lists the cruises.

From what I understand, HAL is the only cruise line that will NOT be using the new cruise terminal.

Morning Yonnie

Thnks for your input on this.

Where did you hear that HAL will still be using the West Side piers? A good source, I presume.

It only occurred to me that HAL will be using the Brooklyn pier along with everyone else under the WLC umbrella.
The new digs won't be ready til spring of 2006. So I had a feeling that everyone, including HAL would move there upon completion.

I noticed in the 2006 HAL Europe brochure, the 9May sailing of Amsterdam from NY mentions 'scenic cruising Statue of Liberty'

That could mean Amsterdam will sail from BKLN, and putt around the harbour close to Lady Liberty .... or sail from W92 St in Manhattan, and slow down as she approaches.

Sorry to keep bringing this up, but I'm sure you've seen the reaction on the Cunard board over at "CC" ....

Not a pretty sight......

We get weekly e-mails from Ocean & Cruise and it listed all the cruise lines that would be using the new pier. HAL was not mentioned.

But I do know that some letters were written to Seattle (not from us) about why they aren't moving to the new pier. Last I heard they hadn't signed a contract yet.

Let's hope HAL keeps it that way!

I just realized something ....

If the PA will be refurbishing the West Side piers, the HAL ships have to dock somewhere during that period.

Unless those plans call for each pier to be rebuilt one by one in that 2-3 year time frame.

There's some speculation on the other board that Cunard will use the Manhattan facility once it's completed. So the thing is, is this a temporary thing?? Personally, I think it's not.

QM2 will be using Brooklyn starting next spring upon completion. (Let's face it, that ship is way too big, so they need a bigger pier)

Guess we all have to wait and see what happens next.
