LuLu's report will be quite interesting.
From what I can see those cabanas are not for me.

Except for the fact that they are nearer the pool, they make hanging out at your own balcony look much more attractive. It will be interesting to see if they can sell them on a regular basis.

I wonder how much they will detract from the experience of those who do not buy them.

All the negative comments regarding the cabanas are all correct. Too hot (limited ventilation), too expensive, smaller area around the pool for the rest of us, blocked ocean views, less mingling w/others and it places people in classes. The primary reason people do not spend seadays in their cabins is because it is small & closed in and no mingling with fellow passangers. So who would want those cabanas? For the same money, I will choose the casino (I may even win) over the cabanas.

So the big question is, how long do you think it will be before HAL gives up on the cabanas and pulls them?

I'm wondering if they will appeal to families, because it would be a way to corral children.

There are only 2 family cabanas on the Upper Deck.

All the rest are for 2 people only.
