    Question HAL NE/Canada Shore Excursions

Many thanks to the great information provided by KK (Yonnie) and also to MysteryGal (Helen) in the CLF NE/Canada Cruise Places section ... we sort of know what we are planning to do in some without taking shore excursions.

We wiil be on Eurodam for the September 21, 2008 sailing... (10 Days)

HAL Experts! Need your approval on the ones we are planning to book through HAL! Mostly, we just want to eat lobster and ... maybe ... see some Fall Foliage -- no museums and that sort of thing.

Bar Harbor, Maine: "Acadia National Park & Rustic Lobstor Bake" ... Departs 11:30 AM ... 4 Hours ... $99 pp ... Drive the coastline with great views ... a DOWNEAST Lobster Bake for lunch.

Halifax, Nova Scotia: "Peggy's Cove & Lobster Lunch" ... Departs 9:15 AM ... 5 1/2 Hours ... $149 pp ... Combines scenery and delicious food.

Charlottetown, PEI: "So, You Know Lobster, Eh?" ... Departs 11:00 AM ... 3 Hours ... $109 pp ... We learn everything about lobster and then eat one.

Are these OK? Are we missing any "Must Dos"?

Halifax, Nova Scotia: "Peggy's Cove & Lobster Lunch" ... Departs 9:15 AM ... 5 1/2 Hours ... $149 pp ... Combines scenery and delicious food. We loved this one years ago - another good choice.

We did the 9-night Canada/New England cruise out of Baltimore on the Grandeur of the Seas last year and did some of the ports you're going to.

In Bar Harbor you do not need to do any pre-booked excursions. They have a couple of trolley companies, including Red Trolley, and the price was $25 for a 3 hour tour around Acadia National Park all the way up to Cadillac Mtn, which was awesome. And there are several restaurants that have wonderful lobster dinners - ask the locals for the best ones. You'll save yourself alot of money and you can do your own thing on your own time.

In Halifax, again, you don't need to do any pre-booked excursions. You can do the Sam Adams Brewery tour, which is great. Then tour the Citadel, which was very interesting. And there are some wonderful restaurants along the waterfront area.

We did St. John, Portland, and Boston as our other stops.

But if you really want to do pre-booked excursions, I would also take a look at Welcome to ShoreTrips® - Your Guide to Shore Excursions to see what they have to offer. You'll often do the exact same tour for alot less money and alot less people.

Several of those ports are new -- HAL just started this new itinerary/ports last year.

For us -- it would not be a problem -- every time we have a new port on a cruise we always take one of the ship's tours.

These ports we have not been to so I can not help you out there:

    Gaspe, Quebec
    Sept-Iles, Quebec
    Saquenay

Check out the links in one of my posts for things we have done in the other ports.

We visited Halifax two years ago on our TA and took the HOHO bus around town. It is a very relaxing, very informative tour. In addition, you can get off the bus at the various stops - including the fort- then hop on another bus to finish the tour. The tour is conducted from old English double decker buses which make the transport almost as fun as the tour.
