I agree with everything you said Sue!
My TA had a client who was mad that she told the cruiseline that she (the client) was diabetic, and needed to carry insulin. While she thought it was "nobody's business", the cruiseline and Homeland Security thought differently.

Sue, thanx again for the links you posted. I am not on insulin. This is a brand new med that must be injected up to 1 hour before breakfast or dinner, but not lunch, that enhances the action of the oral med I take plus gives me a "full" feeling before eating so that I eat a lot less and start losing weight. It also drops my blood sugar numbers to 110 or below. (Sunday, for instance was 79 but it is now in the 110 range.)Not thrilled with the injection part of the procedure but don't mind losing weight this way! )

Boy am I glad to hear that!! You should still have the letter from the doctor and a prescription ready, and ask procedures from both the airlines and the cruiseline. The med isn't the problem, the syringes are!! I saw a program a few days ago of confiscated items at security and there were thousands of syringes!! Both air and cruise will tell you exactly what you need to board!! I wish you luck with the diet!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

    re:meds and travel FLRic

This sounds like a very new product. I would also suggest that you [1] take along the drug information insert that came with your med and [2] get a duplicate RX from your doctor to keep with you during travel.
Should you become separated from your meds and needles/syringes having that duplicate RX AND the insert info could well make the difference in obtaining replacements. Meds in foreign countries are not always by the name you know in the USA. It goes well to repeat what others have often said... NEVER put meds in checked baggage. Other governments than our TSA folks take a dim view of syringes & injectible meds esp since we are not talking about well known insulins. From a RN's point of view. Have a good trip.

I just wanted to update you on what is going on. The doctor has a template of the necessary letter and made two copies for me. I called NCL to inquire about procedures and they told me to fax Corporate a copy of the letter and carry the original to be seen at the ship. Then they did something that just about blew me away. They offered to put a small refrigerator in our cabin for free for the med! To my knowledge, that ship does not normally have 'frigs in the cabins.

    Thats excellent Rick

You are correct about Crown not having fridges in cabins normally and to have one put in yours is definately a very good move by NCL.

I did notice that the level of attention given to all passengers aboard her was alot higher than average, I would guess that has alot to do with the fact she is smaller than most ships and she also has a superb crew, right from captain down, they really really try hard to please you as much as they can and they are always very approachable too.
