I wonder if it was just the Noordam. Maybe someone who sails a lot on HAL ships can tell us if Nealberk's complaints would occur anywhere in the fleet.

Thank God he was not complaining about a Princess ship!

Actually, I have heard from several people who sailed on the Noordam after we were on it and loved it. Meanwhile I have heard other complaints about other HAL ships- but I have also heard praise.

Part of my complaints go back to upper management and in that area several people have reported having hard times getting fair resolution to problems.

So, in all honesty all I can say is that there is both some good and some bad. Unfortunately I had all the bad.

I have not been on Princess yet. I am expecting to have a great time when I do.

My sister and BIL took Princess cruises for their honeymoon and second anniversary, then a third Princess cruise later. What they loved the most were the food and service. In Alaska, my BIL had salmon every day on the ship. I have no reason to think I will have a bad time on the Sapphire.

Interesting Cruise Line Facts & Figures

The best prevention is to wash your hands regularly and using the hand sanitizers provided around the ship.

It's been reported that more than 75% of transmission can be avoid by washing your hands - something people just don't do on a regular basis.

Also, people don't think about cleaning the buttons on the remote control, light switches, and the phone in their cabin. A little wipe goes a long way.
Exactly, lack of good hand hygiene coupled with poor surface cleaning, is a sure fire recipe for a Norovirus Outbreak, it can happen wherever people congregate in confined spaces.
Some interesting facts and figures for Cruise Lines can be found on the CDC link on this page - Two ways to reduce your risks of infection: 1. Wash your hands frequently. 2. Carry a canister of SaniGuard dry on contact surface sanitiser.

BTW, Hospitals are required to keep records for all viral outbreaks, including Norovirus, someone mentioned restaurants - it is more likely to be an E. Coli outbreak (food poisoning) if it happens on food premises, quite difficult to monitor unless there are numerous reports at the same time!

By taking adequate precautions, there is no reason why you shouldn't have an enjoyable and memorable cruise for all the right reasons!

Good and helpful info from all on how to avoid.

Still, even the most careful can and do get Noro.

Please also remember to vote! The POLL question is "Would You Report Having Noro?"

    Would you? Why, why not?
