I just need to tell everyone out there with a special dietary need how fantastic Princess was with my son's difficult dietary restrictions. The experience could not have been better!
As instructed in the personal planner, I wrote Princess a couple months before sailing that my son requires a gluten-free, lactose-free, sugar-free diet. The corporate office was very nice, and emailed us a list off all the gluten-free products that they would bring on board for him. Because he has multiple "free" restrictions, they even emailed us the ingredients off all the items, so we could verify that the products would work.
Because of his diet, they required us to eat in the main dining room (vs. anytime dining) for the cruise, but that was fine with us. Every night, the head waiter would come over to Josh with the next night's menu (and lunch, if the main dining room was open). He and Josh would go over the menu and come up with a meal plan just for him, often modifying dishes to fit his tastes. The next day, the head waiter would come to our table at the begrinning of the meal and verify Josh's menu, in case he had a change of heart. Then he gave Josh's menu to a special chef in the kitchen. Course by course, his food was served at the same time as ours, and at every course, the head waiter would come over to make sure it was right. And the food, for all of us, was excellent.
The head waiter also made recommendations on things for him to eat in the Buffet for breakfast and his bedtime snack.
Truly, if you have a dietary restriction, I would not hestitate to sail with Princess. My husband was so concerned about feeding Josh on any vacation. I had read on a chatroom that Princess was pretty good with gluten-free, and we love Princess anyway, so I finally convinced him. However, I can honestly say that the head waiter made our vacation.
