Question Dengue Fever ... On the rise?

In the Travel Section of our Sunday paper there was a small article saying that Dengue Fever was on the rise in the Caribbean and there had also been cases reported in South Florida. That's about all it said. Typical for our paper.

Does anyone know anything about Dengue Fever? Where in the Caribbean?

Dengue fever is a virus-based disease spread by mosquitoes Some of the symptoms of Dengue fever include a sudden high fever, often as high as 104 - 105 degrees plus the appearance of flat, red rash appear over most of the body 2-5 days after the fever starts.

A second rash, which looks like the measles, that will appear later in the disease. Infected people may have increased skin sensitivity and are very uncomfortable.

    Thanks, Joey! Good information.

So it's from misquitoes ... not good, but at least the we know.

Since their little wings don't fly well in the wind, better to be in breezy places -- beach, boats, etc. Also, to wear Deet rather than perfume ....

Still can't find much about its increased spread either in the Caribbean or the reported cases in Florida.

Everything I have read..( and i immersed myself in this subject since we are booked for the south pacific) I even went so far as to quiz my PCP just two days ago.. and every thing I read says as long as you apply a little bug repellent you will be ok..
I mentioned my concern about using DEET and it was my physicians position you would literally have to bathe in Deet for adverse effects health-wise..

Supposedly Avon has a wonderful product that works well and does not contain Deet. But I am having trouble finding an Avon representative..
