3) The EU has already issued a warning against travel to Mexico AND the United States.

4) Russia, China and Tiwan have announced they will quarantine foreign visitors showing flu-like symptoms.

5) There are now 40 confirmed casses in the US, up from yesterday's count of 20.

Guess, cruising would be considered "non-essential" ....

Thanks, Sheila! Please keep us updated on what you hear. Many of us are going or have friends who are taking cruises with Mexican port stops this Spring ... so are very interested.

Note to Stewards: If any of you would like to change the wording in this Title from "Hog Virus" to "Swine Flu" , it's fine with me.

I sort of like "Hog Virus" better too ... doesn't make it sound so serious and scary!

Kind of scary, we had a bulletin from the Corporation since we have offices all over. Fortunately I do not travel for work outside the US. Think I'd stock up on handwipes and hand sanitzer before I left if I did.

The thing is that, as usual, they love to overexagerte everything! When you consider that they have about 1,600 cases reported in Mexico and the population of just Mexico City is 20 million people, I'm not sure they should be considering it a world-wide pandemic quite yet. Yes, we need to be concerned and we need to take precaution, but when the problem area is one city and they're talking about restricting travel to the whole country, you have to admit it is a bit overreacting. It would be like saying there's a possible major earthquake going to happen in the next couple of days in San Francisco, so tell everyone in the world not to come to anyplace in the U.S. It's as one newscaster said, "People tend to panic in situations like this and there's absolutely nothing to panic about."

Even the CDC has stated that you should NOT avoid travel to Mexico, but to take normal precautions, like washing your hands. They further state that none of the resort areas in Mexico have had any problems.

So, unless things change in the near future, travel to the Mexican cruise ports are not areas of concern - at least not yet. We'll see what happens in the weeks to come.

Seems like longer than a week has gone by since I ask this. As we all know, the cruise lines have cancelled port stops to Mexico. A good thing in my opinion.

Sadly, we now have confirmed cases in SC. A group of students from a private school about 40 miles from where I live took a trip to Cancun ... direct flight from the US ... only place visited was Cancun.

Today, I stopped by my our favorite Mexican restaurant to pick up some salsa, etc. for the weekend. There was a sign on their door stating: All of our employees are in the US legally and none have been to Mexico in the past three months.

The owner told me his business was really OFF badly this week! Do hate the ripple effect of this ....

We have 2 confirmed cases in Florida, one in Broward county and one in Lee county where I am. It is in Bonita Springs, a school age child with a another suspected case in the same school. They are saying it is a mild case.

Guess it's OK to still call it the "Hog Virus" since all of those hogs in Canada caught it from some infected worker ....
