Question Is Anyone Allergic to Purell?

Do any of the rest of you have a problem using Purell?

It doesn't bother my palms ... but frequent use makes the back of my hands break out.

When we return from a cruise, the back of my hands are raw!

Lulu, I have never used it. But my mom (who is in a nursing home), swears by it.

How do you avoid using it? There are the dispensers everywhere and crew constantly shooting it on PAX hands on cruise ships.

You get really looks if you refuse ....

Tell the crew you washed your hands when you went swimming

I would see your doctor, what is in that stuff that could cause you to break out?

I have never had a problem with that stuff... However, I understand that if you do use it to much it has the reverse effect... Any doctors in the house to confirm?

Could it be the alcohol content is drying out your hands? Try to use extra hand moisturizer when you are cruising, maybe?

Delores .... Think you're probably right in my case! It's more that the alcohol dries our my hands.

Bet there are some who actually are allergic to Purell ....

It could be the particular fragrance the company uses?

Maybe you ask your doctor for a source of fragrance-free sanitizer. There could be a medical supply place that sells it.

If I went into the pool on the cruiseship, I would definitely get out my sanitizer spray. I wouldn't trust the cleaniness of the pool, chlorine or not.

May sound silly ... but at home during the day I cook lots (seems I'm constantly washing my hands) and use OLIVE OIL as my mosturizer so I don't transfer any stange moisture product to food I may touch.

On cruise ships I can't carry around a bottle of olive oil!
