I had a 'funny' stomach on our last trip and asked for some meds...it was about $8 and it really helped. There were tons of sick people on this trip, coughing and sneezing all over the place...and some had been injured during some rough weather days (older folks). They were using canes, etc...

I broke my ankle. Went to the doc on the Dawn Princess, the price was actually LESS than it would have been at the orthopedic office I worked at at the time. My HMO paid for it, xrays, crutches, cast...they reimbursed me when I sent them the bill. It was a B 2 B cruise and Princess made me get off in LA and sent me to an orthopedic surgeion there. They sent a taxi, I was off the ship before it was officially cleared, they brought me to the doctor, I had more xrays and a permanent cast, and they brought me back to the ship and put me right back on! My HMO also reimbursed me for that doctor visit, but Princess paid for the taxi.
I had a melanoma removed from the middle of my back less than a week before we were going on the Vision of the Seas. I had to have my stitches taken out while onboard. They charged $85 for that, which I thought was high. My doctor was going to give me a suture kit to have my husband do it, but he didn't want to. Turns out we had a surgical nurse at our dinner table, if I had the suture kit she could have done it!!!!
    Upcoming cruise:

I got a really bad sinus infection in the Baltic. It was a nightmare trying to get help before it was time to go on our excursion that morning. I was really really sick and thought I might pass out it was so bad and I was so dizzy. But I wasn't going to miss that side trip to Moscow no matter what!! I finally got seen by the doctor - after many phone calls to front desks and nurses...and then lots of waiting in the waiting area...all the time watching the clock because we were now running late. And I was finally given some antibiotics - after much pleading on my part and lectures from the doctor about antibiotic abuse. I was way better later that same day...but I look like hell in all the photos in Moscow. You can tell I wasn't feeling well!!

I had severe abdominal pains the first full day of our SA/Antarctica cruise and went to the infirmary-I had no fever so the doc gave me some over-the-counter meds. The next day, the pain had subsided but I felt lousy. Went back to the infirmary and was running a fever. The doc ran urine and blood tests and I had an infection somewhere. She gave me some powerful antibiotics and I gradually felt better for the rest of the cruise but lost my appetite somewhat. The total bill was about $380. Luckily, we had travel insurance and it covered it all.

Fast forward, 5 months later to a Mexican Riviera cruise on the Ryndam-the last day, heading back to San Diego, the same severe abdominal pains returned that evening - really bad. We drove home and made appointment to see our family physician the next morning. She referred me for a cat scan which divulged acute appendicitis and she ordered me to the hospital for emergency surgery! My surgeon said that the first episode was likely appendicitis that was abated/sealed due to the antibiiotics on the first cruise! I really lucked out the first time, and also the second time, as my appendix had actually ruptured by the time I hit the table!

My husband got very sick with a cold in March and had to see the Dr. We are Canadian and that visit cost $97.00. That included his antibiotics. He started feeling better the next day, but then I came down with it. Another $97.00. I got to bring it back to Canada with us. The doctor and his staff were very good.

Wow, Bill, you sure got lucky with that timing! I'm glad you're OK and it worked out the way it did.
