Great Question.
After seeing parents proudly commandeer the hot tub and tossing in the diapered baby and other little children in the adult hot tub... Need I say more? It's against health regulations to wear diapers in the pools and hot tubs, but those regulations only apply to other people.
I think of the bacteria that can fester in that nice warm environment and gross myself out.
I was in one of the larger hot tubs in the spa area of the Voyager of the Seas, I think it was.
That was ok until a bunch of creepy old guys came in. They were probably wearing diapers, too.
So, in response to your question. I mostly avoid the hot tubs.

DH is a plumber and not much will gross him out, but HOTTUBs/JACUZZIs do!
Macruise, you are absolutely right! Warm water BREEDS bacteria!
According to my DH no amount of chlorine will remove it from that warm water. Others may think differently, but I'll take HIS word for it because if he gets grossed out it's gotta be bad
Now a jacuzzi BATHTUB at home, that gets drained, is completely safe I'm "allowed" to get one of those

I am always amazed with all the concern about Noro-virus that the cruise lines don't worry about e-coli and other nasties that originate in the hot tubs.
Even if lots of chlorine could eradicate the germs, who wants to be in a chemical bath?
We haven't heard from anybody who doesn't fear the hot tub yet. Fess up.
