I have to answer in another way, while I wasnt sick on my cruise, as I was flying home with a whole family around me who were sick, I got sick and was bad off for the next week! While I dont think they were sick when they boarded thier cruise on the Caribbean Princess, I really wish they would have taken better care to not spread their sickness around!

So if I boarded while I was sick, I would stay in my cabin until well, however, as sick as I was, I was sure glad I was at home and not at sea!!!

So I dont think I would want to cruise being sick!

I have suffered with stomach problems for years -- not related to the Norvo virus.

Last March I was in the hospital one week before we were to leave for San Diego -- but I still made the cruise. I was very worried about the Norvo virus as we didn't find out about it being on the Statendam until we got to the cruise terminal. I did have letters from both of my doctors concerning my condition which doesn't have to confine me to the cabin.

But if I did have a serious illness that others could get from me -- not certain what I would do.

    Such a horrible dilemma!

This is a problem I don't wish on anybody! If I were still home, I would stay home. I am sure of that. If after flying to port, I got sick the night before or morning of cruise....OMG! Wouldn't that be bad luck? Think about it. If you can't get your head up from the pillow, or your aching body out of the bed, how can you get onto a ship?

So far,(I should cross my fingers as I write this!), I haven't experienced poor health on a ship. But, it seems that after a winter flight, I always come home sick or get sick soon after.

Having said all this, I wish all of us only good health. Healthy vacations for all!

Goodness, that question is a plate full, which opens other questions. If it was a cruise where the port was close to home we would probably stay home or give the cruise if not refundable to a family member who could enjoy it. What if the whole family I mean everybody was flying across the US to a different port your in a hotel and you get sick before the cruise? Everybody is going to leave if you'd stay you'll be by yourself in a different state in a hotel room. What would you do? I would probably get on the ship and stay in my cabin because we never buy the insurance. It was hard to come up w/ airfare cruise fare hotel fare because i still have 3 kids who live at home. I would get better by being able to relax, I know how to keep germs to myself I work at a school.

I hate to say this but most likely I would get on if I had been sick a few days before. But for the first 2 to 3 days I'm gonna wash my hands raw. Every time I turn around I'm gonna wash my hands. Maybe even just stay on my balc as much as possible and only emerge to go eat in the dining room. I would also pick up a bottle of Lysol on my way to the ship to keep my room virus free, wash my hands before I leave the room, wash my hands before I go into the dining room and wash my hands again once I leave the dining room. Also Purell with be my best friend.

I wish I could say, no, absolutely not also. But life is not always black and white.

Many times we fly to our embarkation port early. Would I not have gotten on the ship if I had an upset stomach at embarkation in Livorno Italy after being in Italy for 5 days? Unless I was gravely ill (ie Heart probs)- I probably would. Would I wander around the ship and eat in the dining rooms or leave my cabin for any public area or excursion? No way.

I've been blessed to cruise over 170 days now and I've gotten lousy colds more than a few times. At that point I "quarantine" myself to the cabin until I am on the road to recovery.

Thankfully to date, each time I have received the check-in health survey, I've not been ill.

    NO I WOULD NOT....THAT'S WHY I BUY INSURANCE...ALSO, A VIRUS CAN
KILL SOME PEOPLE. IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT OR DON'T BELIEVE
    IT, GET EDUCATED.

THE NEXT TIME SOMEBODY COMES NEAR YOU WITH A VIRUS, THANK
THEM FOR THE OPPORTUNITY THEY ARE GIVING YOU, TO GET SICK.

Scarygary, the problem is that the insurance may not cover your illness, so then you are out your cruise money. I doubt that the cruiseline will give ou a refund because they can not fill your cabin on the very day of sailing. And lilke some other posters said, it could just be a 24 hr bug, the ship sails, 6 hours later you are fine, and your ship has sailed without you. Of course if you are really sick and you board, even if you saty donfined to your cabin, if they dr finds out you are ill, they can force you off the ship.

If I feel a cold or a tummy ache coming on, I usually take something right away and I feel better within 24 hours, so yes I would probably board. I have never been sick or gotten sick while on a cruise.
