This was our second time on Maasdam, third time for HAL and I think our twelfth cruise. My husband and I have birthdays a few days apart Nov/Dec and we like to spend them on a cruise. We like to get away to a nice warm climate and we have a few islands that we like to go back to if we can. So when we saw this cruise come up we said ....why not. The ship has been refurbished since our last time on it. It is smaller, and that is a drawing card for us too. We found ourselves, at the ages of 53 and 56, to be the "teenagers" on board, but that is fine with us too. There was NEVER any issue with getting deck chairs. As a matter of fact, we usually had the WHOLE top deck to ourselves. The food was amazing this trip, It was always the perfect temp. and served lovely. We had a great table of 6, and everyone was always on time, and the meal was always served timely, but never rushed. We had early seating. The entertainemnt was really good. There were some amazing musical productions, and some great singers. There were also a few great comedy shows too. Seating was never a problem. My husband typically never enjoys shows on a ship....the only one we missed on this ship was the first night...we were too tired. Our cabin steward was the BEST we have ever had....I can't stress this enough. We love lots of ice and he saw this right away and brought us a huge bucket, and also left the small one too. Then I noticed that both were always full. One afternoon I was going back to cabin and I met another steward in our hall with a piece of paper in his hand. He was filling ice buckets, and even changed out a towel. It turns out the stewards had gotten together and would take an extra run around in the middle of the afternoon for each other. Our cabin itself was well laid out. With the bed under the window, it left lots of room to move around. The bathroom had lots of room and having a tub made for a nice big shower! The hair dryer and dressing table was nice to be outside the bathroom, Neal....I thought of you EVERY time I used the hairdryer! LOL. Thankfully it never blew up. We visited one of the new lanai rooms that they feature now. One of our table mates were upgraded to one. However, that room was shorter than ours, because of the sitting area they had outside of it. So their room did not have the area inside that ours did. And having people always walking past seemed to be noisy too. They mentioned that they would hear people early in the morning walking by on the deck. We ususally get a balcony, but this cruise we didn't, but we never regretted it. We both thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this cruise.
