Delightful Cruise

written by Cruisetopia posted on 14/08/12

We sailed out of Southampton for an 11 day cruise to the Canary Islands, on-board the Celebrity Eclipse. This is a new and stunningly luxurious ship. It is well appointed with staff, who we found without exception, to be friendly and courteous at all times, whilst not being fawning or sycophantic. We were in Aqua Class on deck 11, which was delightful! As such we were entitled to priority use of the Aqua Spa and unlimited access to the relaxation suites. We also qualified for priority seating in the speciality restaurant called Blu. We did not have to pre book and could dine when it suited us. The level of service and the quality of menu made this a superb addition to our holiday. Our cabin was spacious to say the least, with a large balcony. The separate bathroom had a power shower, which was a real treat. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. As Aqua class guests we received fresh fruit, bottled water, healthy cold tea drinks and canopies every day in our cabin and of course a chocolate on our pillow every night. Lovely! The bath robes, slippers and towels were all luxurious and there were both free and pay for movies on the 32" flat screen TV to watch. The whole ship was lushly decorated, but in an understated way, that left you feeling pleasantly at ease. A novel feature was the lawn on the upper deck. It gave you a surreal feeling walking on deck in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean when a man mowing the grass goes by! There were only 2 formal nights during our 11 night trip. The rest of the time you could be as informal as you liked. Certainly most men dressed in Polo-shirt/Shirt and trousers for dining on informal nights. Very few wore ties or jackets. We did book 1 meal in the French speciality restaurant Muranos. This was beyond brilliant. The food was totally delicious and the service second to none. Overall a delightful experience.
