Windstar Cruises runs an exclusive 3-strong fleet of cruise vessels, all with a small passenger capacity, and complete with sails (more state-of-the-art than they look!) and teak decks for that private yacht feel. Their size means they can call at smaller ports that larger vessels must pass by.
The list of destinations is simple but inviting: summers in the Med, winters in the Caribbean are the main attractions and, while there is an eclectic range of onshore activities, water sports are particularly well catered-for.
Popular with an independent and sociable crowd mainly falling in the 35-60 age group (children are not encouraged), onboard entertainment is consciously kept to a minimum, allowing people to mingle more freely. Talks on cultural, historical and practical aspects of ports-of-call are popular and, despite the high-end elegance and service (a remarkable 3 staff to every two cruisers), the atmosphere is determinedly casual.
