For those of you who have cruised to Hawaii on NCL before the days of Pride of America and Pride of Aloha, you've probably been to Fanning Island before. While NCL still offers some cruises out to Fanning Island, and I beleive a few other cruise lines do as well, its not nearly as prevalent on cruises to Hawaii anymore. Its kind of shame as Fanning Island really was a treasure.

Fanning Island, which is part of the Line Islands in the Republic of Kiribati is located 228 nautical miles north of the Equator and 1,000 nautical miles sout of the Hawaiian Islands.

Fanning Island is an island with a small native population. Its an island that is mostly untouched by the modernity of civilization. There is no electricity on the island at all.

On days when cruise ships are scheduled to arrive in town, the locals set up a little market of hand made goods next to the tender pier. The cruise ship staff prepares a BBQ meal for the passengers by the beach. Its this nice white sand beach with absolutely gorgeous blue green warm water. The water is almost hot since we're so close to the Equator.

Its an amazing place to go. If you ever find an intinerary that includes Fanning Island and you have the time for it, you should go and experience it for yourself. Its an amazing experience!
