We were there many years ago and only saw two islands, but of the two Hawaii, the Big Island, was by far our favorite. It was so much more laid back and not at all touristy. Of course this was back in about 1985. I'm sure it's changed quite a lot since then. We loved the volcanoes. That was fascinating and something you don't see everyday!

We've been there 5 times, and it's a toss up between the Big Island and Kauai, both for the reasons Mike gave. The Big Island has become increasingly touristy in some areas since 1985, and so has Kauai. However, they're both relatively untouched in comparison to Maui or Oahu. The advantage of the Big Island is its size. You can really get away from the madding crowd if you want to.

Each island has its own beauty

But if I have to pick a favorite, it would have to be Kauai. If you just have one day there, you have to do the helicopter tour of the island, or at least cruise the Napali Coastline in a small boat, cruise ships cannot get close enough to see it.

I even like Oahu, if you stay out of Honolulu, it's a beautiful place.

Hawaii is more than a place, it is a state of mind.

Mine is also between Kauai and the big Island but the Big Island comes a little bit ahead because of the valcanoes.

Hm, I've been there 3 times. I would have to say that my favorite has to be Oahu. Not for the touristy stuff, and I'm not much of a beach person, but you can't beat the touching tribute and memorial for the soldiers that died on the USS Arizona and other ships out in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Its moving to peaceful to just be there and see everything.

After Oahu it would have to be Kauai.

Been there twice (Oahu, Kauai, and Maui). Hubby's been to Oahu and Kauai. We'll see the Big Island in a couple of months. Maybe then I'll be able to say which of the four major islands we've preferred. All I know is that we'll be in Hawaii. Nuff said.

What I find interesting is that most people, (like us) once they go, they vow to go back..........it is truly paradise.
