That said, I enjoy going ashore and just wandering around, grabbing my "picnic barbecue lunch," then heading back to the air conditioned comfort of my home away from home!

At Half Moon Cay there is at least one really fun adventure that I urge everyone to at least consider: Horseback Riding. It starts out being a somewhat predictable and slightly boring nose-to-tail cross-country ride. But, after a change of clothes [both you and the horse], you enter the sea where the horse literally swims, in an unbelieveable show of physical ability, while you hang on for dear life!

As someone who hadn't been aboard a horse in some 25 years, I was persuaded to try this excursion [$90, I think]. I may break down and do it again when I'm at Half Moon Cay next March!

Perhaps the most unusual shore excursion ever come across!

Great suggestion, my wife hasn't ridden a horse for years & would really enjoy this, hope P&O do this trip or if not we can arrange it.

We were on Half Moon Cay twice this past month, first with HAL and then with Carnival a few days later. I went for a look at the horse ride but decided not to do it because the ride is very short for that sort of money ($69 with Carnival). The "swim" is pretty neat, though - I posted both photos and a short video on my blog at The ExploreNorth Blog » Back on the Beach at Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (you can see in the video that the horses aren't actually swimming, though).

It looks like it would have been far more practical just to keep the horses on the beach and not have the people or horses get wet. What am I missing?

Half Moon Cay is so beautiful, peaceful and relaxing. We split a cabana rental with another couple and thoroughly enjoyed our day. Here's a little video clip I took while there.

Definitely agree with that assessment of HMC. The area that the ship goes to is absolutely gorgeous with white sand and a gorgeous blue ocean. The bay itself I found very plain but the beach is extraordinary.
