Just returned from Santa Tomas de Castilla, Guatemala. I hate to give them a bad review because of tourist $$, but this place was the nastiest port I have ever seen. The port is an industrial port. The water is brown with trash and pollutants. It was so gross! There is nothing to do at the port. They have a welcome center in a big garage type building. The taxi was about $60.00 to go anywhere.
We went to a four star resort for the day for $50.00. All we got were swimming pools. Beers were $5.00. You couldnt step in the trashy beach water. Debris was washed up all over it. Should have stayed on the ship, at least it was clean.
If you have to go there by default, perhaps take a rainforest tour and get away from the water.:thumbsdow
