Thread: What's at the cruise terminal area in Puerto Quetzal?

From what I've been reading there's not much in or around the Puerto Quetzal terminal area... but that the new terminal does have a few shops. Also, that outside of the terminal area isn't very safe.....

Can someone please tell us what we can expect in the terminal area when we get off the ship?

Wow, I can't believe there are no answers on this one.

Maybe the terminal area there is SO BAD that no one cares to remember what it's like!

Maybe not a lot of ships call there....do you know? I've never been there.

While it's not a mega busy port, it does have cruise ships with regularly scheduled port stops there ... Mostly, Princess, HAL, NCL, and P&O.

Thoses P&O ships seem to be every place I go and we often share the same shore excursions. Always, really nice folks to be around.

In 2006 we almost took a cruise on Regal Princess with a port stop in Puerto Quetzal so cruise ships have been going there for a while ....

We've been to Puerto Quetzal twice since I first posted this.

There are actually two piers to dock where there is nothing to do. A tour of some sort is needed unless you are planning to stay on the ship.

Are the piers in the video the ones to which you're referring to?

Things do look a little desolate around the immediate area where passengers disembark, but this video was made in 2009 - and may not be the exact area of disembarkation.

We were docked both times at the one with the long dock leading over. An effort has been made to make it as attractive as possible. The two smaller ones are part of a private yacht club.

The other cruise ship dock (not shown) is in a very industrial area. A HAL ship was docked there both times we were there.
