Our waiter on our last cruise - Henry - talked to us some aabout his country. He emphasized something we've had threads about here- that parts of it are not terribly safe, and that organized tours are better than 'on your won' there,.
He also talked a little bit about how interesting and beautiful Antigua, Guatemala is.

famous for its well-preserved Spanish Mudéjar-influenced[1] Baroque architecture as well as a number of spectacular ruins of colonial churches. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Unfortunatelyy, it looks like it's too far from Santo Tomas de Castillo, where many cruise shups call, for a day trip there... But, maybe one day, there will be a way to see it while on a cruise
Central Park (Parque Central) is the heart of the city. The reconstructed fountain there is a popular gathering spot. Off to the side of the Central Park, the Arco de Santa Catalina is among the many notable architectural landmarks of La Antigua.
