    Las Escobas waterfall.

I'm not going until February, but it's never too early to start doing your homework. I was wondering if anyone has been to the Las Escobas waterfall. Any input would be appreciated. Also, if anyone has done this tour, was it booked through the ship or privately.

    Thanks!

I booked one with a city tour at the dock. It was GREAT. The price at that time was $35.

Lots of pictures here to see it is your cup of tea:
NCL Sun 2006 Puerto Santo Tomas de Castilla Guatemala

I'm scheduled to return again in December on NCL Spirit.

Ok, thanks. I figured there were be plenty of options to choose from once we got there. The price for this tour is $69.00 per person. (I'm sailiing on the NCL Spirit in February.) I'm hoping for cheaper. After you go in December, you'll have to fill me in.

Inside the terminal building there are many booths selling tours - I think lots are selling the same tours.

Outside the building, people will be trying to sell you tours, but what they are really trying to do is escort you to one booth or another. They may receive a small commission and will probably ask you for a tip.

You can ignore them or not. (Guatemala is very poor and it may be the only income for some)

I don't know if she is still doing tours, but you might email the tour guide I used and see if she is still doing the tour and/or what tours are available and prices. She was a real sweetheart and very good as well. They all charge the same.

I'll report back what i find in December, as well.

I am also going the week of February 14th on the Spirit. I have reserved the falls through NCL. Maybe I'll see you on the cruise.

Whoops, just noticed yours was last year, hope it was a good excursion.

You can do this tour by yourself. The taxi cab fare to the waterfalls in $15 per person. You need a 4 person minimum to get this price. The admission fee to the waterfalls in $5 per person. Skip the tours and do this one on your own. You will save quite a bit of money.

    The fallls look wonderful.

Can you tell us a little about the pictures at the end, on p 7 - the farewell to the ship??? what was that about? Isit something normal, or was this the ship's last call there?

The farewell is normal and somewhat touching. Lots of people driving up blowing horns and flashing lights. Some music. Lots of Thank Yous. Some We Love Yous.

The cynics say they are thanking you for spending so much money, but so what. It's something they don't have to do and I don't recall anything quite like that in any other port.

Don't be in a hurry for a shower or dinner - it's something not to be missed, if possible - at least not the first time. Who knows how long they will continue doing it?

    Zy -
I completely agree with you.. If they are saying
Thank You, they are saying Thank You.
It's a nice thing to do, and I would love to see it.
