Santorini

For anyone who has ever been to Santorini, can you give me a few of the highlights? Whats not to be missed?

Should I take the cable car up and down the caldera or should I try riding the donkey? I know the cost is the same.

What about a trip out to Oia. I definitely will be doing that. I heard that the bus is only 1 Euro. However, is it worth to try and stay in Oia for the sunset? Or is it just as nice in Fira?

Are things on the island expensive?

How about Akrotiri? Is it worth taking the bus to Akrotiri and looking around? Or is the excavation site there not that interesting?

Santorini is as pretty a place as there is on the planet. We didn't really leave the area at the top of the cable car. We shopped, ate, drank, took in the sights there. The ship sailed before sunset so I have no comment on the best place. We took the cable car to the top and walked down, we got to see the donkeys, and smell them, and step around the donkey piles, but we were able to not be with them all the way. It was about a 30 minute walk down. I would like to go back and spend a significant time on Santorini in the future. I know my DW would like that very much indeed.

Thumbs up

I will be researching this port even further than I did when the Sea Dialmond sank. We will be stopping here from 7 am to 6 pm (Tendered) in late August 2008.
