Grandeur is next to be stretched... Vision and Rhapsody will stay the same

I've previously posted on "another" board that the Grandeur is the next Vision class ship to be stretched like her sister the Enchantment. This is still going to happen from Oct-Dec 2006. The initial plan was to also do the same to the Vision and Rhapsody, but these 2 ships can not be done with as much ease and thus they will remain the same size. Apparently, the Finnish built ships (Grandeur and Enchantment) are built in "blocks" which are fitted together vertically making it very wasy to slice the ship down the middle of these blocks. The French built ships (Rhapsody and Vision) are built from the bottom up-- horizontally and thus there's no even breaking point for them to slice. Although the latter 2 won't be lengthened, they will undergo major revitalization progrmas over the next few years similar to those done on Sovereign, Monarch and Empress.

This is very interesting information. Thanks! I saw Grandeur when I was on a Can/NE cruise last year. She was a beauty then, but I am sure she will be amazing after the stretch

thats intersting info regarding the different styles of ship building (finnish and french)

    thanks!

I think I will not think about how the ships are built. I just want to know they are safe. Stretching ships. Sounds scary.

The Grandeur was not stretched. She did have a dry dock and the WIndjammer is now the Windjammer Marketplace, new bedding, NO concierge lounge. The dent was fixed. Too bad about the stretching, it would have been nice. That is my favorite ship.

I wonder why they decided not to do this. I love the Enchantment and we felt very comfortable on her.

Just had my third trip on Grandeur. Capt Rob said in Captains talk that stretching would not happen if he could help it. I think that if it adds capacity to the ship then it will be too crowded at the pool and some of the more popular events. It is a great ship and they should leave as is! New bedding was fantastic.

I'm glad that not all the ships will be stretched. At the risk of sounding trite - bigger is NOT always better.

We were on the Rhapsody in May and just loved it - especially the size.
