We just returned from a visit to Grand Turk on the Pride last week. I think the beaches may still be beat up from last year's storms. The one near the pier, where you can rent cabanas, didn't look too bad, but just a little further down, at Governor's Beach, you could still see some of the damage, where the beach drops off quickly (from waist to shoulder height in a couple of steps). The area was also somewhat rocky - not the best for water sports. The weather was bad when we arrived, and we had a major downburst at the time of debarkation. The ship had said that the excursions were cancelled, but people were still meeting to see if their specific trip would go. We wanted to just see some of the area and spend time on a beach. But our bus was a half hour late arriving, the tour was (in effect) cut short due to time constraints. We just quickly saw a few highlights from the bus..........government buildings, historical churches, anther site where Columbus made a landing (that man really got around!), a maritime museum which contains pieces from shipwrecks (but we'll never know, since we didn't stop!), and a beach stop at Governor's Beach, hardly worth getting into the water. The new terminal, with shopping and restaurants, is nice. But, for me, the visit was a letdown, unless you really like water sports, such as snorkeling, scuba diving, and trying out the new FlowRider to see if you can surf on a stationary surface. It's located near the Cruise Center and Margaritaville. Several people also went horseback riding on the beach.
