AP Posted: 2008-10-08 18:04:58 GRAND TURK, Turks and Caicos Islands (AP) - Tourism is returning to Grand Turk as the island recovers from Hurricane Ike.
The cruise ship Carnival Destiny made a port call Wednesday and brought some 2,800 passengers to the capital of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Premier Michael Misick greeted arriving passengers and posed with them for photos.
It's the first cruise ship in Grand Turk since Ike swept across the island on Sept. 7 and damaged 80 percent of the homes.
The storm also damaged the island's cruise ship terminal, halting the main source of tourists for Grand Turk. The terminal is owned by Miami-based Carnival Corp.
The island chain's deputy premier says recovery has been slow and only 10 percent of Grand Turk has power.
I was just there in August and although we did not get past Margarittaville, there seemed to be a lot of construction around the area. It was a really nice stop for us. I do hope that everyone there gets back on their feet again.

Grand Turk Back Up and Running: Bohio Dive Resort Re-opens
..
After a close encounter with Hurricane Ike, Grand Turk is coming back to normal.
The Grand Turk Cruise Ship Centre is up and running with almost daily arrivals on Carnival Cruise Lines. The shops and tours are operating, too.
Over at the Bohio Dive Resort, they're welcoming divers and gastro enthusiasts. As an added bonus, they have just put the finishing touches to their new beach bar, aptly named The Ike & Donkey. Located on award winning Pillory Beach, this nautical bar is just steps from a turquoise-blue ocean that offers some of the best diving on the planet.
As well as the usual suspects on the cocktail list there are some delicious numbers like the Gaunahani, or Serendipity, and the house special Bohio Rum Punch comes with a warning "guaranteed to make you smile or your money back".
Bohio has sixteen rooms with beachfront views and terraces. Four deluxe rooms have king beds and kitchenettes. The resort has its own dive centre with experienced PADI qualified instructors catering for beginners and more experienced divers.
Has anyone ever rented a private cabana at the pool here? I once read something about it but as unsure if they still offer them after the hurricane repair???
If you have rented one, I would love to hear about your experience. A group of us are going there on the Jan Glory cruise and were thinking of splitting the costs BUT wanted to see if anyone had BAD experience with service to it, location of them, etc....
