Awesome Ziggy, thanks!! Do we know which lines and ships stop here yet???? I know Carnival built the cruise center!! I would love to go there!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
Most people walk into and out of your life . . . but FRIENDS leave footprints in your heart

Grand Turk used to be the economic hub of the Turks and Caicos Islands, with a successful and revered salt industry. Now once again, Grand Turk looks to be at the heart of a new economically prosperous era with public sector investment increasing and private sector interest on a sharp incline.
Accommodation providers have enjoyed success on this island for several years. Major condominium development has begun to create additional capacity required for international air carriers to consider non-stop flights to Grand Turk.
The new airport with state of the art facilities is the pride of the nation and is enticing airlines wishing to expand their services to TCI. The multi-million dollar Carnival Cruise ship development is set to put Grand Turk on the tourism and investment map.
I visited Grand Turk in April of 2006...I personally loved it. It is not built up yet, at all, except at the pier there is a Margaritaville, and some shops...The ship felt bigger than the island...and it was only the Fantsay, lol.
There were wild horses roaming around and chickens and roosters and such. The people of Grand Turk were very friendly albeit a bit on the shy side. The lighthouse was nice to go to and has a small shop, and two different walking paths...the views were spectacular (I have some pics in the gallery)
We also visited her Majesty's Prison...it was very small and eerie...The water is amazingly clear....
Off the coast a little ways there is a HUGE drop and a very popular spot for divers.
Back in the pier area, Margaritaville is loud as usual, crowded...has a really pretty pool and a nice beach area. There are a small amount of local vendors, but their prices are high, nothing like straw markets in Nassau, lol. Inside the building you go through when coming off of the ship and going back onto the ship, they were still working on it when we were there...it has been completed now...but there are a few stores...a small jewelry store...I can't remember the name but they are also in Cozumel...the gentleman we spoke with had just come from Cozumel to work there for 6 months...he hated it...there is nothing to do on the island, he said. After the ship leaves...margaritaville closes, lol.
Along our walk we noticed some small places to stay...not hotels by any means...but small inn type places, and there were restaurants. I noticed some signs for new homes, and condos that were being built starting at only $200,000!
Like I mentioned before...it is an attractive place for divers, due to the deep drop (700 feet maybe) and beatiful reefs!
I hope this helps...
I personally love this island because it was not developed...give it time and it will be very commercialized.
