Golden Princess -Mex Riv -- anyone done this one?

April 5th we cruise the Golden Princess from L.A. to the Mexican Riviera. Our ports are Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. What can you tell me about the ship? The ports? Any pointers on things to do while in port? Any highlights from your cruise? We have cruised the Crown Princess. It looks like the Golden is very similar, just curious of any differences that you know of. Thanks!

I've done the MR cruise but on the Carnival Jubilee and the Star Princess. We didn't do any excursions either time, just went into port, and looked at buildings (such as the hotel where Liz and Dick had their tryst) and shopped.

It'll probably be in the 80s when you get far enough south in Mexico, but Southern California may be still on the cool side (for us), unless the Santa Anas are blowing.

Thanks for your reply. We didn't schedule an excursion in Mazatlan so we'll have that day to explore on our own.

I was researching the weather the other night and the averages that time of year are mid 80's so you are right on. Didn't look for L.A. but chances are it will be warmer than here in Indiana in any case. I'll just check the weather right before we go to know whether or not to pack a jacket.

If you stay pre-cruise by the coast (San Pedro, Long Beach, Santa Monica), it'll be pretty mild. Probably high 60s, low 70s during the day. Maybe overcast. Don't expect beach days.

We are staying at the Crowne Plaza in San Pedro. Got a fabulous deal on Priceline. Our flight doesn't get to L.A. till 7 pm the night before so not much time to sight see and we won't be going to the beach.

I've heard that's a decent hotel (only hotel I've stayed in around here was the LAX Marriott and that was because of an early morning flight to start our honeymoon).
