visit the berlin wall, go to check point charlie, take the train to berlin, there is a shopping area right by the cruise pier. that most people dont know is there. lots of nice things to buy there. lots of leather goods, leather purses wallets, belts, buy a german pickle from the barrel, buy some stawberry's they are awsome compared to ours in the states.
have a beer. and wait till you see the send off the 400 german's will give you when the ship sails away. its unreal. they love us americans... you will see. if you ever go there.
i have been there twice and both times there were about 400 germans that go to the pier to send you off..
What port did your ship call at? I will be in Hamburg soon. How long was the train trip to Berlin? Did you do this in one day? I'd love to see some of Berlin if I have time.
Thanks!
hi both times i went there the ships port was called wermundia < not sure if i spelled it right....it took about 3 hours on the train to berlin each way. but well worth it. when you go to wermundia on a cruise they usually dont leave till about 10pm so you have enough time to go to berlin on the ships tour. the train it right at the ship.

Wonderful advice, DH and I are on the Constellation next May and the ship calls at Wanermunde (I am assuming the English name for Wanermundia)....We really want to focus on cuisine and beer/wine for our time there... It's just sounds great!
We went on an excursion while docked at Warnemunde that took us to a medieval-aged brewery. It was WONDERFUL! The beer was great (an ancient recipe makes this stuff called mumme beer and wow is it potent), the town was ancient, the people were so nice. Right there at Warnemunde, near where you dock, there are two interesting things you can walk to: A tall tower you can go up to see the town and a nude beach. We didn't know it was a nude beach...we just thought we'd take a stroll near the water and we got an unexpected eyeful!!

How Fun!!!! This is will be right up our alley.....The beer - not the nudity . We were wondering if the brewery tour was for us....sounds like it is! Thanks THL!
Terry, if you want I can send you some photos of Warnemunde, including the brewery and the town. Or maybe I should upload them to the CLF gallery since there's no size limit there for photos. Let me know if you're interested!!
