    Smile Hamburg, Germany--Tour Suggestions

So many places to explore in Hamburg... so little time to do it all! We took our ship's "City and Lake Cruise" and saw much of this beautiful historic city by bus and boat. Looking forward to our next visit when they will have their very ambitious HafenCity project finished at the new cruise terminal--should be outstanding!
In the meantime-- check out my new Hamburg, Germany site at: www.carols-cruise-port-itineraries.com

Hamburg is a great city! I went to visit a friend of mine last weekend and to go and see all of the Christmas Markets and it was magical! Its quite pricey though I have to say. Three of us went together and rented an apartment in Hamburg right near the main Christmas market.
We visited the Hafen City you mentioned and the Opera House is still not finished! From what our tour guide said, it seems like theres still a good few years to go with everything which is a bit of a shame but I'm sure it will look incredible once its finished.
We also took a trip to the Reeperbahn on the Saturday night which was hilarious! Never been anywhere like it so it was quite an experience to say the least. A mix of seedness and banter amongst other hilarities!
We also went to see the Lion King while we were over there as Hamburg has a big muscial theatre base which is pretty cool! I've found a list of whats on at the moment if you want to have a look!
I would also recommend as well as going to see a show and doing a bit of sightseeing in the centre (Rathaus, Alster Lake etc) to head to Sternschanze as well. Most of the main trains can get you there in 5 minutes and there are so many cute little shops and nice restaurants around there too. Most of which are much more reasonably priced than the centre!

A good Tip is also the Hamburger Fish Market. Every Sunday Morning in St. Pauli accurs one of the oldest open Air market in Germany. But you have to be early - around 5 am. You will sea and hear the famos "Markt Schreier". Its quit interessting.

When we went there were lots of very friendly young ladies who didn't seem to have many clothes, they must have been very thirsty because they kept asking us to buy them drinks....

I think you must have gone down the wrong street.

I was there in 1996, but did not see much of the city as we arrived late (about 4pm) and sailed at 10am the next day. I am going back in 2012 so hopefully will get to see more of the city.
