Thumbs up A question for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender community.

Here is a question that has been on my mind for a few months now... It needs to be directed primarily to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender community.

I want you to think of when you start to book a cruise, either solo or with your significant other ....just how important is it to you .. that other community members be on board?
    Is it a deal breaker??
Do you prefer to cruise with a lot of people from our community or do you like voyages where everyone (both hetero and the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender community)seem to mix in.
Have you ever been disrespected on a cruise because of being who you are?

I am looking forward to this discussion...

I don't think it matters, Joey. I'm married, but couldn't care less if there were no other married couples on board. DW and I just do our own thing and get along great with other couples, singles, gays, lesbians, blacks, orientals, or latinos. It doesn't matter to us as long as they are fun to be with.

Gene it doesnt matter to us either... we either like you or we dont..LOL

The question was more to find out where mainstream attitudes in our community are at this point and time...

May I ask a question Joey and David - why is it that some cruise lines do a cruise just for the gay community - I'm just really interested to know the reasons behind this - nothing more.
I have a male gay friend, of many years and he is a valued friend - and I just love his partner he's brilliant!
But --- I can't understand why the cruise lines want to give a seperate cruise???
Is it because there are still more ignaramous people out there than I realise?
Hope you don't mind me asking ---

of course not only through asking questions can we begin to understand.....

Its my understanding that when a mainstream cruise line is offering a "gay" cruise it is because some entity has leased the ship out for that particular run.
Personally we haven't done an exclusive gay cruise only because the prices are so much more (typically)

I know of a few gay couples that cruise. I do not believe that any of them would even consider taking a "gay" cruise. It is not just the price difference. They feel more comfortable cruising with the mainstream.

To expand a little on the theme. I am Jewish but would not consider taking a "kosher" cruise. I would not enjoy a cruise that had religion as a theme.

It could be you haven't met the right Rabi!

But back to topic... I wonder if it is because they are coupled....I wonder singles also prefer mainstream

And maybe because nowadays there are FOD meetings on probably most cruiseships anyway, going on a chartered (and more expensive) cruise isn't considered a necessity anymore. Of course, since I'm straight but live in a relatively liberal city as you know (even though this area tends to be more conservative as I was able to see from many pro-8 signs last year), maybe I don't see the need. Have you heard of anyone feeling uncomfortable either way on a mainstream cruise when meeting someone of a different orientation?
