Question ALL gay Cruises vs Mainstream themed booking

Have you ever done an "all"gay cruise?.. would you? Are you the type of individual/couple that prefers to book on mainstream themed cruises, In you opinion.. what are the major pluses and minuses for both types of Itineraries?

I just choose our cruise on the itinery - don't mind whether it's a gay cruise or not - we are all passengers at the end of the day.
Carousel, Seawing, Sundream, Emerald, Coral Princess, Oceana, Artemis, Legend of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas, Ocean Village, Spirit

The principal difference is that when a cruise is an All-gay cruise, the ship has been bought out by that company (be it Atlantis, Rosie, or whichever). They then sell the cruise, which shows as not available on the cruise line's site or via travel agents, because it is "bought out".

The plusses and minuses are that often, a lot of people who are very good at their jobs are below deck not doing them, because the company that is presenting the cruise brings their own people, be it their DJ, their cruise director, their entertainers, etc. This is great if you want to focal point of the cruise ship experience to be saturated gaiety. Maybe you would prefer the cruise director that has been to these ports 300 times over the one who is witty and gay but hasn't been there more than you have. Maybe you would prefer the on board entertainers that provide what you would think of as the cruise ship experience over more wigs and feathers.

Typically, the all-gay cruise is MUCH more expensive. I.M.O, the best scenario is to go to a gay travel agent that is buying out 300 rooms (or whatever) at a discount, and arranging on-board parties, so that there are plenty of like-minded cruisers, but you still get the full experience of the actual cruise line. Gays may find a regular cruise "not gay enough", or on some cruise lines, that everyone has gone to bed by 11pm, and there is no one fun to have cocktails with, at midnight or later.

So, the middle option (a large group coordinated by a specific travel agent) may be more fun than booking a regular cruise and hoping for the best, or booking an all-gay cruise, and getting "more gay than cruise".
