Thought I'd start a thread about GLBT experiences on each line...
I've sailed on Cunard, Crystal, Celebrity, and Princess (in recent years- no sense writting about the experience on the French Line, or Renaissance, now is there! )
All my experiences have been generally positive.
Cunard was very comforatable as a gay man/gay couple. There were FOD parties every time, at least three per trip, and, on crossings, usually a Pied Piper group. The Chart Room was the place to meet before dinner, and the Yacht Club was the late night disco on the QE2- haven't sailed on the QM yet, but hear the Comodore Lounge is nick-named Comodorothy! ('95, '03, '05)
Princess seemed to have the FOD parties listed, but it seemed less together...others have felt it's one of the most Gay-Friendly lines...I felt some tension in the nightclub on Sun Princess, but that was a shorter cruise. ('94, '04)
Crystal always seems to have a fair number of gay men, and a few lesbians. The atmosphere is generally more discreet, but, other than a foolish comment made on a shore excursion(the wife kicked the husband for making it), I was totally at home, and we, as a couple, felt welcomed.('92, '94, '00)
I've sailed on Celebrity the most lately, so that might have something to do with my comfort level, but I've found plenty of other LGBT people on each ship, always the FOD parties, and more of a sense that, while we blended in, we were also freer to be openly gay- as a couple, at the disco, etc. There was a FOD meet and greet that turned the Disco into a huge party, complete with Martha Wash blasting, and the dance floor mixed about 50/50. Darn - I was hoping for something a little more salacious Blazerboy . . .but, OK
As you can see from my signature line I've been on quite a few cruise lines . . . no age comments here!
My partner and I started cruising in 1981 and I can honestly say we have never had any bad experience that I can attribute to the fact we are gay - or even two men traveling together.
I like to think part of this is because the people that choose to cruise are a little more enlightened (not always - I've met my share of ignorant oafs on ships) and therefore, more accepting. IMO!
My post is way late... I actually didn't get pack to post anything after our cruise on NCL PoAM in August.
My partner and I had great experiences, there were severl crew who were 'family' and we saw /met several other couple- but men and women.
People we me- people we shared tables with, people we did excurions with were actually friendlier than some of the gay couples we saw.
The FOD cocktail reception was my partner and I and four women we met from Arkansas.... severl other same sex couple walked by, check us all out and walked off...
The reason I'm actually back on the board is we have booked another cruise NCL DREAM out of Houston and leave in two weeks...
We met a group from another online site...and someone had offered to make door signs/ magnets from the board.
Ours will say Chuck and Mark, Philadelphia, PA....
Interesting to see how long it stays on the door or what the feedback will be.
I have noticed a larger than average gay lesbian number of passengers and have heard that Celebrity is not only gay friendly, but has a good number of gay crew members. I have several gay clients that will only sail Celebrity, period.
Gee Reggie, with the motorcycle avatar, I just assumed you were a lesbian!
(kidding!)
Seriously, we've been really happy...a few people have said that there have been bad situations on RCCL ships, the parent company, but I've never heard anything about Celebrity but good things. Princess and Cunard also have good reputations.

Not sure why a lesbian and a motorcycle would be a giveaway.
I've got motormanfl's avatar as he passed away Wednesday
and I have that as my avatar in his memory.
I was on Rhapsody in Oct. of 2004 and witnessed what could have been an ugly
scene. There was a very drunk gay man being very obnoxious to a lady at the bar.
Her husband was ready to kick some butt. I really doubt the womans husband even thought twice about the obnoxious man's sexual preference. He would have gotten a butt kickin if he was staright or gay. The obnoxious drunk was escorted by friends from the bar before it got to blows. Aside from that and that could not really be associated with his being gay, I've never witnessed any problem.
Reggie, didn't know about the connection with your avatar...wasn't trying to tease you about Motormanfl....very sad.
But yes, lesbians are often associated with motorcylcles...the Gay Pride parade in S.F. starts off every year with a contingent of self- proclaimed "Dykes on Bikes"-
Unfortunately, your incident proves that a drunk is a problem, gay or straight...

I must admit that I've normally found the FOD gatherings are not really that well attended. There's normally only about half a dozen people who actually attend (we've noticed a lot who walk past to have a look but don't actually introduce themselves to the group).
