... we cruise because we enjoy dressing up and for the most part being pampared...
We tend to talk and make conversations with anyone who speaks to us...
I guess we may be the exception to the rule...
Not at all. As a hetero man, that's the reason I cruise also.
I'll talk to anyone that cares to talk to me too.
It's too bad we can't dwell more on everyones similarities
rather than their differences.
I see we have some new folks who joined CLF while I was out cruising! Welcome! Andrew is the ultimate host and I see he's been making everyone feel at home here. Look around and feel free to join in any topic that strikes your fancy.

We enjoy dressing up but that isn't a reason why we cruise. On any holiday we'd shower and change (although admittedly not into black tie normally) after we'd been out for the day and before dinner. We cruise because we enjoy the whole experience of which dressing up is only a part. We have looked at Easy Cruse's river trips - if their smoking policy was different I think we might try them.
Very good thread! Even those of us who are not gay, have dear friends and/or relatives who are. It's helpful information when they ask us for recommendations.

Just back in after some absence......we will be cruising to do just that - whether we meet GLBT people or not, I'm sure we'll have a great time - I never introduced myself as "Hi, I'm John; I'm gay and I'm your conference planner".......Rick and I are able to make conversation wherever we go; if "straight" folks do realize we're a couple it normally isn't any kind of an issue.....if they have a problem, it's their problem, not ours.
Wherever we travel we're able to meet and talk with some really nice folks; we're feeling this will be the same on our Zaandam cruise

Just got off a Celebrity cruise, and they had a Friends of Dorothy scheduled almost every evening in the Martini Bar....which is where I normally hang out.....got to be that between the Friends of Dorothy and the Friends of Friends of Dorothy, and the just plain Frineds, there wasn't room for anyone else! The only thing I noticed was that some guys only hung out with the FOD, and the rest of us just....were.
We did have one little incident; we were invited to do a bridge tour, and asked to meet in a certain place. There were about 20 people on the tour, and five of us were gay...two guys walked by the group of 20 and one said "Hmmm, must be one of those Finnochio gatherings." (the Italian word for "Fa&&ot") His friend didn't hear, so he repeated loudly. At which point I muttered loudly, "And there goes the A$$hole brigade!" The laughter made the two men flee down a hallway!

Andrew - we should be on the same cruise!!!!!!! Rick and I no longer hesitate to say exactly how we feel when idiots say something like was said toward you.......the days of "taking it" are over, for sure!
We are comfortable in our skins - if others have a problem, so be it - we present ourselves as ourselves, and we make sure we have a good time wherever we go, no matter what some bigots might say.......

A new poster here; and a little sad to see such little posting in this area!
I've sailed HAL many times as a solo cruiser, and have never had a bad experience...but I have to say that Seabourn is my favorite line. Of course, the price-per-day is higher, but the intimacy of the ships, and the outstanding crew & staff make a sailing on board so special. I have my first transatlantic coming up in April on the Legend, and have deposits on 2 more afterwards (for 2009). If booked early enough to get a reasonable single supplement, it's cheaper than a week in the Caribbean. To me, the experience is worth it!
Hey, Paul...I'm a little dissappointed too, but there you have it. Have wanted to try Seabourn...maybe some day...
John, it seems to me a level of comfort is often more intimidating than actual confrontation...the 'phobes are really little chickens for the most part.

We've sailed RCL ten times and have had nothing but positive experience. We dance, we stroll, there's the odd peck on the cheeck, but we've never had anything but good experiences with fellow passengers. We have sailed Celebrity a couple of times and HAL once and had good experiences, in terms of FOD.
I do find myself playing Julie McCoy when I feel like it, too. We'll see people around the ship and ask if they're coming to the Friends of Dorothy thing. Often, they haven't noticed it or weren't sure if they wanted to come but we can be adept at gathering a group.
