GALVESTON — The operations at the Port of Galveston will be shut down for quite a while as federal underwater debris assessment teams investigate hazards in the ship channel.
Cruise operations likely will not resume for some time. The cruise terminal was flooded with 2 to 3 feet of water, and the wall next to the water was torn down.
Cruise ships scheduled to return to port Sunday and Monday were diverted to other cities. Cars left in port parking lots by cruise ship passengers are most likely a total loss, said city spokesperson Alicia Cahill.
The port property is currently unsecured. Crews will be working to reinstall fencing as soon as possible.
