    Is this easy to find?

I am wondering if anyone has ever had trouble finding the port in Galveston? Is there a good map service online I should use? Thanks in advance!

Hello fellow Oklahoman..........are you driving?? If you are driving and are on the Interstate, the signs are real easy to follow and parking is plentiful..........I have sailed out of Galveston 3 times......will be happy to try and answer any questions you might have if I can.

I have used Yahoo Maps the two times I have sailed out of the Galveston Port. I never had trouble, just look for the BIG BOATS!

The Strand, which is also called Avenue B has losts of shops and places to eat and drink. The Tremont hotel, which is a block away on Ships Mechanics row, or Avenue C, is a restored warehouse, and it's interesting to go inside to see the architecture. The Railroad museum is not too far from there also.

There are some good restaurants near the Grand 1894 Opera House on PostOffice Street. (Ave. E) My favorite is the Saltwater Grill. All the places mentioned so far are close to the cruise terminal.

If you are driving straight to the terminal, you will probably get directions for your cruiseline or TA, but you really have to work HARD to get lost. You drive south of Houston on I-45. The highway ends on broadway in Galveston, at around 61 St. Just keep driving. when you pass the statue of Harry Rosenberg, turn left at any intersection, and you will be heading to the tourist area and the cruise terminal. If you never turn, the road will end at the Gulf, on the Seawall. Turn around, and when you see some huge houses on the right, (starting around 12th ST) turn right.

If you decide to spend a few days in Galveston, check out the Seawall, the road on the Gulf side of the island. If it is swimming weather, you can swim there. There are also restaurants and hotels along here. This is the place to rent roller blades, surreys, and other conveyances for going up and down the street.

I think MC pretty much answered your question but didn't want you to think I was ignoring you........We pretty much enjoyed the Strand and stayed at the Hotel Galvez on the Beach and enjoyed the beach.. MC can probably answer your questions better than I, living in the area but if you have any others ask away and I'm sure we'll try and get them answered. Welcome to CLF.........

Oh, Jim... how did you enjoy Hotel Galvez?

We had the pleasure of spending a few minutes with the lovely MCcruiser in the lobby of that grand old hotel about this time last year. And a VERY enjoyable few minutes it was!
It looked like it would be a wonderful place to stay!
