Thread: Houston or Galveston?

In your opinion, which be a better place to stay overnight before a cruise out of Galveston? We will arrive via plane in Houston at 5:30pm the day before the cruise. We can get transfers through RC at a cost of $90pp(there are 3 of us).
If Houston, any ideas on a hotel? Same for Galveston.

My suggestion would be to rent a car from Enterprise.
The cost would be about $70-80 including dropoff charges. The return would cost about $35-45.
You could drop your bags at the pier and Enterprise
would bring you back to the pier when you dropped the car off. Same when you disembarked, Enterprise would pick you up at the pier.
I've gotten good rates and could recommend the Commodore and Ramada Limited. They are both right on the Seawall and close to several restaurants.

If it were us we would stay in Galveston. We just like being closer to the ship.

There are a number of hotels on Galveston Island. We stayed at the Hotel Galvez. It was ok but is a bit pricey for what it is.
As I recall there are a couple chain hotels/motels on the island.

I do not know if they still do but a couple years ago Enterprise Car Rental had oneway car rentals that could be dropped off and picked up at the pier. You might look into that option.

BTW, all Vision class ships have safes in every cabin.

Definitely agree about staying in Galveston for the night. Also, if you don't want to rent a car, you might find a private car service for about the same price as the transfers. We used a wonderful gentleman this past December.

Not sure that renting a car is the best idea at this point. Since we will get to Houston at 5:30pm and this will be wintertime, not knowing the area and then driving in the dark to Galveston, my luck would be it would be storming and we'd get lost. Want to make it as painless as possible. Decisions, decisions.
