Thread: What to do in Fort Lauderdale

As a cruising newbie, I have always wondered what Fort Lauderdale has because surely if it had nothing else, I can't imagine why so many cruises start and/or end there. I never saw it on a map, so I always worried the city has nothing except a very busy cruise ship port and I would be bored if I stay overnight. What is so attractive there besides a beach and (during the winter) warm weather?

You have to take the river taxi. They are like the Hop On Hop Off buses of a lot of cities and take you by some of the most expensive shoreline houses that you will ever see. Quite amazing. Water Taxi
