Evacuation at Port Everglades Cruise Terminal

About 300 passengers, who were disembarking from the MSC Poesia, were evacuated from Port Everglades Cruise Terminal 4 yesterday, after a passenger dropped a 'container of liquid.' Those who had not yet disembarked were kept on the ship at that point.

The agent who retreived the container reported feeling lightheaded, and an increased heart rate, and was taken to a local hospital.

Meanwhile, the same passenger was also found to have marijuana in his baggage, and was, of course, immediately arrested.

Although hazmat tests on the liquid showed it to be non-hazadarous, the liquid was sent for further testing, and initial tests were inconclusive as to the actual nature of the liquid. The passenger in question could face additional charges, depending on what the liquid turns out to be.

The incident caused a delay of about three hours in the dissembarkation process.

Oh my! I bet that was a mess and I bet there were some unhappy cruisers, both those departing and those getting ready to embark!

Not to mention some possible missed flights for those waiting to disembark.
Yet another remiinder to NEVER, EVER book flights to or from your port of embarkation / disembarkation wit really tight schedules, and not a lot of 'wiggle room'. Best to allow about 4 to 6l extra hours - if not a day - on each end, just in case the unexpeted happens. You never know what might ocur!

I usually suggest renting a car to do some sightseing prior to the flight. You then have a place to keep your luggage before the flight. It usually costs little more than the transfers.

    Good suggestion, Reggie.
It's wise to rememver that not everything is under your control and there are certainly no guarantees of perfect performance when yiou travel.

NOTE to no one in partiular, and everyone in general -

It is standard practice for representatives of the Broward County sherriff's Office to stand by, ready to haul in anyone trying to bring in illegal subatances. The dogs will have sniffed your luggage before you even get to it. THEY KNOWS

Absolutely! Not the best idea to put it in your luggage. If you really must do those things (I do suggest you stop, but none of my business). Flush it or finish it on the ship, do not be an idiot.
