Port Everglades: 9 Days until the Oasis of the Seas
Located in the heart of Greater Fort Lauderdale and the city of Hollywood, FL, Port Everglades is one of the busiest cruise ports in the world. It is the No. 1 container port in Florida and among the most active cargo ports in the United States.
Royal Caribbean's new mega ship, Oasis of the Seas, will be making the new terminal her home in the United States. The $1.5 billion ship will call Port Everglades home starting November 11th and debuts for her inaugural voyage on November 20th.
The Port Everglades Cruise Terminal, in preparation of its opening and the arrival of the Oasis of the Seas, has published an online guide to the terminal and services in the surrounding Fort Lauderdale region.
Not only will the terminal play host to the Oasis of the Seas and dozens of other cruise ships ( See the schedule here), but there is a chance residents and travelers with relatives in Cuba might be able to hop a plane or boat out of Broward bound for Cuba. Broward County commissioners approved seeking permission from the federal government to allow flights to and from Cuba at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
County officials will also ask the U.S. Department of Treasury to designate Port Everglades as another point of entry.
So, it appears Broward County and Port Everglades may offer a revitalization of the cruise industry's already massive impact on the Florida economy, but also offer Cruise Line Fans of all types a new, and convenient access point for many types of cruises and destinations.
