No, but I'd like to try it.

I get regular mailings from a travel company that books passengers on freighters.

    One of these days...

The only drawback, its seems, is that a freighter lacks all the amenities and comfort of a cruise ship, but can cost about the same.

Most do have an indoor pool, a small gym, and lounge, but nothing like what your money would get you on a cruise ship.

Good subect! I have read about freighter cruises. Yes the amenities are lacking, but as I understand often you have a coule of days in port instead of the 8 hours or so hours a cruiseline gives you. I read that the food is good, not gourmet, but very good. I would try it if my friends would go too. Not something I would do on my own. I hope that if someone on this board has tried it that they reply and give us their opinion. I do think that they are suppose to be less costly than a regular cruise.

They cost as much as a cruise?? It would seem they would take more days and stay in ports a lot longer for un/loading. I wonder if you purchase by days on board, or by ports visited?? Anyone know??

I highly doubt my parents would take a freighter cruise. Maybe one day, decades from now, I'll take a freighter cruise just to try it out. I'd try it once just to see what it's like.

The next freighter-cruise mailing I get I'll try to scan it so that you can see the iteneraries and rates, and photos of the cabins etc.
The per diems tend to run about $150-200 or so.
