Thread: Marseille and Villefranche shore excursions

We are sailing out of Barcelona on the Norwegian Epic next June. It is the trip of a lifetime for us. There are 3 ports in Italy and 2 ports in France. The shore excursions for the Italy ports are very expensive because there are things that we really don't want to miss. So our budget for the last 2 ports in France is a bit tight. I am thinking about doing these on our own. We are a group of 4 adults in our 40s and we don't mind walking. We are comfortable taking public transportation if we know where we are going. The only language we speak is English.

So here is where I need some advice. Can we do these ports on our own? Is there something that you would recommend that we do or see? I have looked at the shore excursions that are available on line and none are jumping out at me as "can't miss" destinations.

These are going to be the last days of our cruise after 3 busy and full days touring in Italy. We will be ready for a slower pace or a shorter day on shore. I will keep working on my research, but any advice would be appreciated.

In Marseiile there realy isnt much to do at all except for drinking pastis and eat boullabaise.
You can take the bus to the fishing port of Cassis. You take the M8 bus from outside the Castellane metro station
Or you could travel "inland" to Aix de Provence.

From Villefrance its easy to take the bus to Monte Carlo and Nice.
It will take aprox 20 minutes and the bus costs Euro 1 pp.

There are many private tour companies who can help you make the most of your time in port. The will work out cheaper than a ships tour if you are 6-8 persons..
